Recycling can take on a myriad of forms for families. Yes, we recycle used paper goods, plastic, glass … the usual suspects. But in my opinion, some of the most creative, inspiring methods of recycling include refashioning everyday items into new creations. To help get your creative juices flowing, here are a few handpicked tutorials that involve repurposing clothing items into adorable duds.

Transform a worn-out sweater into a toddler boy’s sweater vest.

  1. Just sent my daughter off to Europe with a favorite pajama shorts that were “brothers” and some well loved cami’s that had been handed down. I love recycled clothing and knowing there is a story behind the garment. My story, their story, all creating history.

  3. I love al these great ideas! I have a friend who designs children’s clothes and will be sending her your site ASAP! She’ll love it too! Thanks!

  4. These are great tips! I’m a huge advocate for thrifting, and these are great ways to “thrift for free!”

  5. The best “recycling” was when I made quilts out of my children’s t-shirts. I used ones that meant something to them, stitched the squares together, took batting and a used flat sheet, stitched that all together, then tacked in spot. Instead of giving the memories away, they now had a keepsake for posterity.

I love all these ideas! My sister made some dresses for my daughter last summer out of my husbands button down shirts. They are so cute! The dress is worn backwards, with the buttons going down the back of the dress.
I also have a friend who is making T-shirt dresses for little girls out of adult size T-shirts. She is working on a website as we speak! We got a TCU one with purple camo at the bottom- too cute!!
Love these ideas, I just wish I could sew!!!

  7. Tanya B says:

I love to look for cool tshirts at thrift stores and then redesign them for both my daughter AND son.
