Pronounced “ee-kaht,” it is a method of weaving that uses a dyeing process similar to tie dyeing on the threads before they are woven. Another similar textile in this family is batik. Batik patterns are created by melting wax over fabric and subsequently dying it. The process is repeated for other colors until all dying is completed and at the end of the dye process, the wax is removed.
